| I dont really think that it matters to much... esp where chickens are concerned. I think it depends on the animal, e.g goats ussually only thrive on a free ranged diet, so in that case, fair enough. But chickens (in my opinion) aren't that important when it comes to free-range or not. 2 me Free Range is misleading, because it implies that whatever it is has been produced in a better way than it actually has been. the uk regulations state that for a chicken or its eggs to be counted as free-rage, the chicken must have daytime access to open air runs for at least half of the duration of their lives. I mean, it's a fuckin chicken! it aint like its a pet!
Don't even get me started on animal welfare (where chickens n livestock in general are concered)!
And anyways, why is this just "The Great Chicken Rights " why not domesticated animals in general?
Also, under this topic, why not bring selective breeding n GM foods into the equation to make it a bit more interesting?

| Ok, well i see nothing wrong with how animals are treated in the majority of farms these days, my friends uncle runs a sheep faamr not far from where i live and i visit there quite a bit, the animals are treated well and lead good lives until they are taken to the slaughter house. Animals are killed in a much more humainly way these days and are killed in a quick and easy way, for people to began to get cut up and say "o these poor animals, they shouldnt be killed for us" But that is there life purpose, they are born to be eaten, ok not every animal is but then we are only killing and eating the animals that are fulfilling there life purpose. imo the body needs meat, you look at vegetarians and vegans and they just look ill, the high majority of them any way. i have run out of things to say i think i am starting to confuse myself so i am leavning it there. | |

| stay on topic =D
lol
umm in my opinion animals share this planet equally with us! ok so we eat them but thats the food chain. but at least let them lead decent lives up until the dinner plate. its just not humane. personally what i eat is either free range or something i've gone and caught (i.e. fish) there is no reason that other people can't do the same and just respect the enivronment, for example due to british fishing we've nearly wipped out the entire cod stocks in the atlantic. that is just not on for humans to be so inconsiderete! plus there are loads of other fish that people are afraid to try just because it looks funny! right now i'm off topic =/
animal cruelty = bad
treat them better or don't eat them!

| yes i'm on a personal crusade now =]
just to put this from another angle right i work as a chef at a very high class restaurant. we'd been using fresh meat off a local farm. one day they bought in some cheap meat from macro's, simply i refused to work with it, went home, and they had to close that restaurant that night but luckily they got some decent meat from the local butchers and things changed. but due to laws in england what i did was perfectly legal.

| Wooot some activity since my last post. Ok, first off church, i done get what your point is here: - Quote :
- i've gone and caught (i.e. fish) there is no reason that other people can't do the same
Then you go on to say: - Quote :
- due to british fishing we've nearly wipped out the entire cod stocks in the atlantic
First you say we should fish, then you say due to our extensive fishing industry, we'v messed up the numbers of cod.. cant have it both ways m8... I mean it's like that Creating Livelihoods Ad, "give a man a fish, and he'l eat for a day, give a man a fishing rod and he'l eat for a liftime"... Should be "give a man a Fish, he'l eat for a day, give a man a fishing rod, n he'l go fucking mental!" just giv him a fish.. the greedy bastard n to address your second (restaurant) point, that's fair enough, the cook is the pro, so its up to him weather he wants to use free-range or not, but the entire post completely threw me....! - Quote :
- right i work as a chef at a very high class restaurant. we'd been using fresh meat off a local farm. one day they bought in some cheap meat from macro's, simply i refused to work with it, went home, and they had to close that restaurant that night but luckily they got some decent meat from the local butchers and things changed. but due to laws in england what i did was perfectly legal.
what point is being made here? chefs can choose what meats they wanna use? :s i dunno.. that last 1 really confused me. Btw im not having a go.. im just being pedantic. Also, anyone here who think selective breeding is bad, because if we have big breasted chicks (no pun intended) its gonna fuck with their legs? if so, any thoughts
